Volunteer at Ryde Rugby Club
Your Year to Volunteer
Volunteers are the heartbeat of Ryde Rugby - together, we make rugby happen.
Ryde Rugby is powered by people in our community who put their hand up - on game day, behind the scenes, and at key events throughout the season. Volunteering is genuinely fulfilling: you’ll help kids thrive, strengthen community spirit, and be part of a welcoming group of people who make rugby happen.
You don’t need to be a rugby expert. We’ll support you with clear guidance, role clarity and (where relevant) simple training. Even an hour here and there makes a difference. And the more volunteers we have, the more we share the load - so everyone can enjoy the season.
We welcome anyone in our Ryde Rugby community to be a volunteer at our club, whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or a friend!

Where we need help this season
We’re always looking for volunteers for the following roles:
Coaches
Coaches create a fun, safe, and structured environment for players to learn rugby skills, build confidence, and develop teamwork. You’ll plan and run training sessions, guide players on game day, and help create a positive experience for all - no matter their ability. Assistant Coaches share the load and are perfect for parents wanting to get involved.
Team Manager
Team Managers are the behind-the-scenes legends who keep game day organised - team comms, availability, match logistics, ground arrival info, player lists, and helping coordinate helpers (like fruit, first aid kit checks, and volunteer rosters). This is a great role if you’re organised and enjoy supporting the team experience.
Assistant Referee (AR)
ARs support the referee by assisting with touchline decisions (e.g., ball out of play) and helping the game run smoothly and fairly. It’s a great way to learn the laws of the game, be involved on the field, and support a positive match environment. Training is available via Rugby Xplorer.
Ground Marshall (GM)
Ground Marshals help keep game day safe and welcoming—supporting good sideline behaviour, helping manage spectator areas, assisting with basic coordination, and being a visible point of contact for issues or questions. This role is about keeping the environment positive for kids, officials, and families. Training is available via Rugby Xplorer.
First Aid (Game Day Support)
First Aid volunteers help keep players safe by providing basic first aid support during games and club activities, responding to minor injuries, and helping guide next steps when medical attention is needed. You’ll be a calm, visible point of support for players, coaches, and families—working within your training and the club’s safety processes. (If you already hold a first aid certificate, amazing. If not, let us know and we can advise what’s required.)
Event Volunteers
Event volunteers support club moments that bring everyone together—registration days, presentation days, fundraising, sponsor events, raffles, and community activities. Tasks can range from greeting families to set-up, running a table, collecting EOIs, or helping with simple coordination.
Ground Set Up & Pack Down
These volunteers help set the club up for success—putting out field equipment, signage, and basic game-day gear, then packing it away at the end. This role suits people who like practical tasks and can spare time before or after games.
Canteen & BBQ Helper
Helping in the canteen or BBQ is one of the easiest ways to contribute. You’ll assist with serving, basic food prep, payments (if applicable), restocking, and keeping the area clean. Even a short shift can make a big difference—and it’s a great way to meet people.

How to become a volunteer
After submitting your interest via our form on this page, do the following. Our team are happy to assist.
Keeping kids safe: Working With Children Check (WWCC)
Working With Children Check (WWCC) – required for all volunteers
To keep our players safe, all Ryde Rugby volunteers must complete a NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC). It’s a simple two-step process: (1) complete a short online application, then (2) confirm your identity at your nearest Service NSW Centre.
Start your WWCC application here: “Apply for a Working with Children Check” on Service NSW.
If you’re volunteering in an official game-day capacity (e.g., Coach, Manager, AR, GM, First Aid), please ensure your WWCC is completed (or in progress) before the season begins.
Register in Rugby Xplorer
It’s recommended that all volunteers register via Rugby Xplorer.
Any volunteer in an official game-day capacity (e.g., Coach, Manager, AR, GM) must be registered via Rugby Xplorer.
Training note: ARs and GMs are required to complete the relevant online courses in the Rugby Xplorer Learning Centre.
Important: Teams U10s and above that do not have key roles (e.g., Coach/Manager/AR/GM where applicable) registered via Rugby Xplorer may lose competition points - so these roles are critical.
